AP Exclusive: Good Charlotte announce new album, tour

Alternative Press - Scott Heisel on 8/17/06 @ 11:23 AM - altpress.com

Attention, world: Good Charlotte haven't gone anywhere. And they don't plan on vanishing soon, either, with a new album slated for an early-2007 release, and an intimate club tour scheduled for this fall debuting new material.

"We don't really feel the need to rush," says singer Joel Madden of the band's first album since 2004's platinum-selling Chronicles Of Life And Death. "We just want it to be right and as time has gone on and things have developed, we feel the need to spend more time to make it exactly the way we want it. We won't let our fans down."

"I kind of feel like it's our first record," notes guitarist Benji Madden, "and anytime you have the opportunity to make a first impression you really want to look your best and leave people with a good feeling." Confirming song titles like "Misery" and "Victims Of Love," he admits, "There were no other intentions than to just write great songs from the heart. And a lot of them have ended up being about relationships and heartbreaks. I just got out of a long relationship and Joel's in a great relationship so there will be that kind balance on the record."

The band are recording the disc with Don Gilmore, who, aside from producing their self-titled effort in 2000, has also worked with Pearl Jam and Linkin Park. The music has reportedly taken a dancier turn, as well.

"I think we're both really getting into watching people move to music," says Benji. "As a result, this record is a lot dancier than anything we've ever done." On the other side of the coin, Joel says that the new songs are "influenced by the pop sensibility of really melodic bands, like Oasis and The Police. I think like we've become comfortable with the melodic side of our music, and on this album we fully embrace it."

The band's still untitled fourth album is due out in early 2007; dates for the club tour will be revealed shortly.

Naked Raygun, Blue Meanies, Bollweevils reunite for Riot Fest

Alternative Press - Scott Heisel on 8/16/06 @ 4:03 PM - altpress.com

Chicago will be decimated on November 5 due to Riot Fest 2006. For the second year of the event, organizers have gotten influential Chicago punk acts Naked Raygun, Blue Meanies and Bollweevils to reunite for the event.

"Reuniting bands is a large task - and our fans, through their constant e-mails, wanted to see some of their favorite Chicago bands play Riot Fest. And we whole-heartedly agree because we are huge Raygun, Meanies and Bollweevils fans. Did we think all three would reunite? Initially, not a chance. So, we took it upon ourselves to bring a show to Chicago that would demonstrate our love, respect and devotion for this city and its fans," says Michael A. Petryshyn, founder of Riot Fest.

Other bands playing include Misfits, the Adicts, U.K. Subs, Mustard Plug, the Business and many more; Marky Ramone will MC the event.

"Obviously, the reunions are huge for Chicago, and for me, it does not get any better than seeing the Meanies and Raygun play again. But we also aimed at bringing in bands from all over the U.S. and the world. I think with three British bands playing this year and a few ska bands, we have diversified ourselves enough that we have filled in gaps that all fans of this music can have a great time at the fest," says Petryshyn."

The fest will take place November 5 at the Congress Theater in Chicago; tickets are $20 and go on sale Aug. 17 at 10am EST here. The full lineup is below.
