AFI, Paramore to co-headline mtvU's Ulalume Festival

AFI and Paramore will co-headline mtvU's inaugural Ulalume Festival on Oct. 23 at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland. Other bands on the bill include Kid Cudi and Death By Sunrise (the side-project of Linkin Park's Chester Benninton). The show--with a moniker lifted from an Edgar Allen Poe poem--is a Halloween-themed festival, complete with a costume contest and assorted surprises. Performances from the show will air during a Halloween-themed week on the MTV networks.

Thom Yorke to release 12-inch single

Enigmatic Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke is reportedly releasing a 12-inch single featuring two new songs in late September. The songs are "The Hollow Earth" and "Apart By Horses" and the release date is scheduled for Sept. 22. Yorke was slated to contribute to the soundtrack to the upcoming Twilight sequel, New Moon, and it's unclear whether either or both of the songs will appear in the movie. This news comes hot on the heels of Radiohead surprising fans with two new songs--"These Are My Twisted Words" and "Harry Patch (In Memory Of)." Download both songs here.

Deathwish sign Starkweather

Long-running underground metallic hardcore act Starkweather are now the latest acquisition to the Deathwish roster. The label states:
"We are proud to announce that Deathwish Inc. is now the label home to Philadelphia's legendary Starkweather. Arguably one of the most important and influential bands in heavy music, we are truly honored to be working with Starkweather on a variety of upcoming releases."
The band has a number of new releases in the works, including a split with France's Overmars, followed up by a new full-length titled This Sheltering Night. Release dates for both are yet to be announced.
